Corolla loses number one position as most sold car in the world after 22 years.
Toyota Motor Corporation historic best seller Corolla, has lost the number one position as most sold car in the world after 22 years! But thats not all... the podium belongs now to an electric car.
Tesla broke another record, again. Its first, was entering the top 10 of most sold cars in the world 2020 with the Model 3 in the tenth place. In only 3 years, Tesla reached the top with the Model Y and holds two of its models in the top 10.
Even at times when electromobility is being questioned and doubted about, it is hard to think that electromobility isn´t here to stay.

Here's a quick overlook at the Automotive Industry in LatAm, totalizing nearly 5 million units sold in 2023. While Brazil was responsible for over 46%, seconded by Mexico with 22%, it's interesting to see that New Energy Vehicles penetration is taking place in smaller economies such as Costa Rica (with 10% fully electrics and 2% hybrids), Colombia (2% fully electrics and 14% hybrids) or Ecuador (2% fully electrics and 13% hybrids).

A lot has been said about if Electric Vehicles are really cleaner in terms of CO2 emissions than ICE's, if we take into account the whole value chain.
I found this article from the Polestar and Rivian Pathway 2023 Report very revealing. If we look at where we stand today, there seems to be no big difference between BEV, HEV and ICE's.
However, the key lies in Electricity Production, which nowadays is still fossil fuel dependant in many countries. Decarbonization of electricity production is therefore the biggest challenge for a CO2-neutral future.
Back to automotive, BEV's have therefore the potential to be much cleaner than ICE's, as long as they use clean energy.
Customers have noticed. BMW Group just revealed its half-year results for 2023: The volume of electrified models sold during H1 2023 increased by+33.1%, while deliveries of fully-electric vehicles doubled. BEVs accounted for 12.6% of sales in the first half-year and 14.1% in the second quarter.
